About the Event

For this presentation, we will be focusing on climate policy in Washington and will be joined by Sierra Suafoa-McClain from Front and Centered, a coalition of Communities of Color who work at the intersection of equity, environment, and climate justice. We know that housing and climate are deeply linked and that frontline communities are experts on the impacts their communities face from climate change, something that Front and Centered focuses on and will talk about. Join us in learning what Front and Centered has to share about their work, their successes, and what climate policy is looking like right now in the Puget Sound area.

Sierra will be discussing HB 1181, which requires local comprehensive plans to include a climate element, which would update the state's planning framework to include climate change response. They will also outline guidance on the climate element, recommendations for Environmental Justice goals, and we will hear from a Front and Centered community member about their experience.
