MISSION

The Tacoma-Pierce County Affordable Housing Consortium is effecting change through community education, advocacy, and the provision of resources to advance the development and preservation of housing that is affordable, attainable, and free of discrimination. We believe everyone deserves a place to call home.

VISION

All residents of Tacoma-Pierce County have access to decent safe, quality affordable housing that is free of unlawful discrimination and free of the effects of past exclusionary housing policies and practices.

VALUES

  • Housing is a human right.

  • We believe everyone should have access to safe, quality affordable housing for all, free from unlawful discrimination and the effects of past discriminatory policies and practices in the housing market.

  • Affordable, available, and attainable housing for all is necessary for every other civic interest: economic development, employment, education, child welfare, personal and public health, transportation, land use, growth management, environmental protection, racial justice, and social justice.

  • Collaboration among communities and development partners - efficiently using resources - is required to preserve and expand housing.

OBJECTIVES

We are working to improve the environment for low-income housing production by:

  • Educating the public about housing issues and providing our membership an information network on affordable housing matters;

  • Advocating for the increase of affordable housing development throughout Pierce County;

  • Undoing the effects in the housing markets of long-standing racially exclusionary policies and practices and creating equitable opportunities for all to have quality affordable housing and asset building through homeownership; and

  • Enhancing the capacity of affordable housing developers.
